Maryborough was settled in 1847 and proclaimed a City in 1905, Maryborough was the port for wool, timber and sugar industries and the supply centre for the Gympie goldfields. Some 22,000 migrants entered Australia directly from Europe by sailing ship through the Port of Maryborough from 1859.
When the Port of Maryborough was at its zenith in the last half of the 1800's. It was Australia's second largest port and a gateway to 22,0000 migrants. While the port has long grown dormant, its history and gloriously preserved buildings remain as Portside, Maryboroughs largest tourist destination.
